RECAP: Damn Good Dawgs from UGA's 43-14 Win over the Vols

After Georgia ran away from Tennessee in the second half of the 43-14 win, here's this week's edition of Damn Good Dawgs!

RECAP: Damn Good Dawgs from UGA's 43-14 Win over the Vols

Despite the Tennessee Volunteers starting the season 0-2 for the first time since 1988, after losses to Georgia State and BYU, the Vols played Georgia tough for the first 28 minutes of this ball game.

Tennessee managed to maintain a lead until 2 minutes left in the first half. Georgia then proceeded to score 30 unanswered points on the way to a 43-14 win. There were plenty of Damn Good Dawgs from Saturday's win, but these are the standouts:

Brent Wilson: (WR) Lawrence Cager

Cager came into Knoxville and torched the Volunteers’ secondary, even if some of the catches didn’t count. Miami fans countlessly warned Georgia about Cager’s “tendency” to drop, but we haven’t seen that at all this season. At 6’5, Cager towers over defensive backs and becomes a nuisance for defensive coordinators. 5 catches for 58 yards and a momentum-swinging touchdown grab is why he’s my Damn Good Dawg this week.

Jamey Goodman: (OLB) Azeez Ojulari

This game was a little different from the rest for Azeez Ojulari. His younger brother, a Tennessee commit in the 2020 recruiting class was in Knoxville with his family in tow. Azeez took the field not only as a rival but as a team captain, making Ojulari the first freshman to do so in the Kirby Smart Era. Azeez ended the night with 2 sacks and 3 total tackles. He and his fellow Bulldogs walked away with a 43-14 victory sparking what could become a sibling rivalry.

Jordan Jackson: (RB) D'Andre Swift

My Dam Good Dawg for this past week's win over Tennessee is running back D'Andre Swift. He did not have his typical explosive game on the ground, as he carried the ball 17 times for 72 yards and a touchdown. That equates to 4.2 yards per carry, an average far below his 6.9 career yards per rush mark. Swift had a feast or famine game, in which 11 of his carries gained four yards or less, not including his one-yard touchdown run on the Georgia Bulldogs' first drive. Yet he also had four runs of eight or more yards, with the longest being a 23-yard run that helped set up a key touchdown just prior to halftime.

Where D'Andre really gave UGA a boost, was in the passing game. His total through the air, matched his ground total exactly, with 72 yards. This made Swift the top Dawg, in regards to receiving yards, on only four catches.

Brooks Austin: (CB) Eric Stokes

Eric Stokes is just built differently. In an era where defensive backs are flashy divas who talk a big game, Stokes is a nose to the grindstone, tough and physical young man. One that despite injuring his left knee against Notre Dame, pleaded with coaches to let him back in that contest.

Stokes utilized the bye week to get healthy and came up in a BIG way against Tennessee this weekend. Locking down his assignments on the back end and delivering arguably the game's biggest play.
