What Does Dylan Raiola's Commitment Mean for Ryan Puglisi?

With Dylan Raiola's commitment to the University of Georgia, the Dawgs now have two quarterbacks in the 2024 class.

Ryan Puglisi commit to play football at the University of Georgia on Oct. 16. Prior to today, the 4-star recruit from Avon, Ct was the only quarterback in Georgia's 2024 recruiting class. However, now that 5-star quarterback Dylan Raiola has joined Georgia's class, Puglisi's future with "the red and black" is in question.

In the era of NIL and the transfer portal, it is fairly common and almost expected for players of "lesser caliber" to transfer or de-commit from a team if someone better is taken. But though Raiola is the top-ranked quarterback in the 2024 class, that does not mean that he will be Georgia's starter on day one.

Since Kirby Smart took over the coaching position at Georgia, the Bulldogs have never signed more than one quarterback in a class. This would indicate that Puglisi may at some point look for other options. However, if Puglisi believes that he is more than capable of beating out Raiola in a quarterback competition, there is a good chance he will stay.

Dawgs Daily asked Ryan Puglisi what would happen if Raiola did ever commit to Georgia, and his answer was simple. “I’m a Georgia Bulldog.” When asked again today what this commitment means to his commitment he responded, “You know my answer already.”

So though Georgia finds itself in a very interesting situation, the answer to it is quite simple. If Puglisi is dead set on becoming a Bulldog and believes that he can win the starting position, he will sign if Georgia. If not, he will likely decommit and search for a spot elsewhere. Regardless, it is unlikely that both quarterbacks finish their careers as Bulldogs.
