JUST IN: Georgia Makes the Cut for Mello Jones

Georgia has made the cut for one of their top 2024 targets.

Mello Jones, a four-star ATH out of Swainsboro (Ga.), is down to 10 teams. Georgia, North Carolina, Miami, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio State, Notre Dame and South Carolina made the cut.

As we have been reporting, UGA is a major contender for Jones. In fact, we believe the Dawgs are the team to beat. Jones and Kirby Smart have a relationship dating back a few years and UGA has been in constant pursuit since they first offered a few months back.

Jones is one of many two-way players that UGA is recruiting in the 2024 class. He projects at WR, but he certainly checks the boxes to play DB at the next level too. Jones has been in contact with new Georgia OC Mike Bobo and DB coach Fran Brown throughout his recruitment.

Here is what Mello Jones told Dawgs Daily back in November.

"It’s very exciting. Like most kids growing up in Georgia, you want to have that opportunity to play in between the hedges, with that G on your helmet. I do understand now that there are a lot of different factors that go into deciding on your school, so I’m very interested to learn more about Athens and every place else that’s showing interest as well."

So far, his interest in UGA has yet to fade. In fact, it seems to have only gotten even stronger.

Georgia is the clear team to beat, but there is still some stiff competition from schools like Alabama and Tennessee. If the Dawgs want to land Jones, they will have to close, which Kirby Smart is no stranger to.
