Colby Jones, a 6'5 shooting guard from Birmingham, Alabama, is one of the top 2020 basketball recruits. He's currently the 128th overall prospect in the country, but the way his game has been recently, he could be in for a huge leap up the rankings.

Jones spent this summer playing for the Alabama Fusion in Nike's EYBL. His team recently just competed in the Nike Peach Jam in North Augusta, South Carolina, which is regarded as the biggest high school basketball tournament in the country.

"It's been great playing against the best competition in the country. It's increased my game tremendously," Jones told The Bulldog Maven.

Recently, Nike EYBL named Jones "Breakout Player of the Year".

Jones said, "To be named breakout player was a blessing, and I can't thank God and my teammates and my coaches enough."

His award should be telling enough that Jones is surprising everyone. And he's only going to get better.

So which schools are in it for Jones? Does Georgia have a legit chance?

Jones told The Bulldog Maven, "Right now, I'd have to say Alabama, Xavier, Georgia, Yale, Harvard, Stanford, and Iowa State are on me the hardest right now."

Tom Crean and the Georgia Bulldogs have just started going in on Jones. He sees a great opportunity to play at Georgia and loves the prestige of Coach Tom Crean.

Jones stated, "The opportunity to play will be there, and just how they can develop me. And, it's proven from the former guards Coach Crean has coached and are now in the league."

He's definitely not wrong about that. Tom Crean has coached and developed Dwayne Wade, Victor Oladipo, and OG Anunoby at the guard and forward positions. He recently saw Nicolas Claxton drafted by the Brooklyn Nets. In addition, Georgia freshman, Anthony Edwards, is expected to be the first pick of the 2020 NBA Draft under Crean.

Georgia will lose Jordan Harris, Tyree Crump, and Donnell Gresham Jr. to eligibility after this season.

With Anthony Edwards predicted to go first overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, Georgia will most likely have to replace four guards for the 2020-2021 season. Jones' playmaking and size make him a more-than-worthy candidate to join Georgia's backcourt.

Colby Jones is also ranked as the #1 player in the state of Alabama for 2020. How great would it be for the Georgia Bulldogs to steal another top Alabama-talent?

Jones told me, "There's no pressure to stay in state, or close to home, just wherever I feel is the best decision for me."

While he doesn't have a commitment date set, he'll most likely announce his top schools within the next month.

The Bulldogs should have a great chance to make the list and potentially land a commitment.
