Four-Star Forward Chase McCarty Makes College Decision

McCarty was a Georgia Tech target

Georgia Tech was hoping to land four-star forward Chase McCarty today, but he has chosen to go elsewhere.

McCarty was choosing today between Georgia Tech, Kansas, Tennessee, Houston, and Texas Tech and he has chosen to commit to the Cougars and head coach Kelvin Sampson.

Here is the scouting report on McCarty from 247Sports analyst Adam Finkelstein:

"McCarty is a big-bodied scoring wing who bases his attack off his ability to make tough shots. He’s very adept at scoring over top of contesting defenders, both from behind the arc and in the mid-range area. He needs minimal separation to get his shot off because he has very little dip in his release and can also square his body up to the target as he is rising up into his release. Physically, he’s long, strong, has solid positional size at 6-foot-5, and is able to create space by going right into contact. McCarty has also shown a willingness to take smaller defenders into the post, where he is a threat to overpower them and score over top of them. The combination of that strength, physicality, and multi-range scoring ability makes him a very tough match-up for opposing defenders. The next steps in his development are to sculpt his frame in order to maximize his footspeed and explosiveness. He may have some potential to switch onto bigger players defensively, but could lack the foot-speed to keep in front of opposing guards, especially in open space. Offensively, he should be able to put more pressure on the rim, as he typically puts the ball on the floor looking for his pull-up and not necessarily for paint touches, even though defenders should be forced to close-out hard on his catch."

Georgia Tech still has a commitment from the No. 39 overall player in the class (Jaeden Mustaf), but adding McCarty would have been a huge get for the Yellow Jackets and head coach Damon Stoudamire.

McCarty is the No. 55 player in the country according to 247Sports and the No. 15 small forward in the country.
