FIRST QUARTER:
Virginia Tech has won the toss and elected to defer to the second half.
Opening drive begins with a delay of game on the first play from scrimmage, Yellow Jackets are forced to go three-and-out on their first possession.
Tech responds by forcing the Hokies to go three-and-out as well, with defensive lineman Curtis Ryans having a key tackle for loss on second down.
Georgia Tech unable to get anything going on their second possession as well, forcing the game's third straight three-and-out. Hokies then proceed to go 49 yards on a reverse to get on the edge of the red zone.
Safety Juanyeh Thomas goes down with an injury on the next play after the reverse, only to go back in two plays later. However VT QB Hendon Hooker runs it in himself from 2 yards out for the game's first touchdown.
Virginia Tech 7, Georgia Tech 0.
Juanyeh Thomas' injury doesn't seem to be too severe, as he takes the VT kickoff 28 yards.
Despite a good kickoff return and 7 yard pickup from TE Tyler Davis, Georgia Tech is unable to capitalize on 3rd and 3, going three-and-out for the third straight time.
Hokies get the ball in GT territory with a 37 yard strike to Tre Turner. 2 plays later, VT QB Hendon Hooker goes down with an injury as well. However, backup QB Quincy Patterson takes it up the middle immediately afterwards to get in the red zone. Hooker then comes back in gets on the goal line with a well executed screen, with the Hokies taking it up the middle on the next play
Virginia Tech 14, Georgia Tech 0.
The Yellow Jackets have yet to do anything offensively, as they have gone three-and-out on their first 4 possessions. Tyler Davis leads all receivers with 17 receiving yards. Of note, the offense is playing with a large contingent of VT fans behind them in this quarter.
Stats after 1Q:
SECOND QUARTER:
The Hokies offense is seemingly doing whatever they want against the Yellow Jackets defense. The Hokies have 224 yards of offense on their first 4 drives of the game. On 4th and 1 with just 3 yards to go to the end zone, Hendon Hooker takes it himself yet again and puts his team up 3 scores just 18 minutes into the game.
Virginia Tech 21, Georgia Tech 0.
5 drives into the game, the Yellow Jackets have their first 1st down conversion of the day, thanks to a James Graham scramble. However they don't get much farther than that. With no one but Jordan Mason in the backfield on 3rd and 1, he bobbles the snap for a 13 yard loss but still keeps possession. GT then punts for the fifth time of the day.
Hokies convert with another big play offensively, with Hooker delivering a 33 yard dart to Jordan Mitchell. However just past midfield, the VT drive stalls but a punt pins the Yellow Jackets to the 2 yard line.
On the very first play of the GT drive, James Graham throws an ill advised pass across his body and is picked off. DB Caleb Farley then takes it all the way to the house for the pick six.
Virginia Tech 28, Georgia Tech 0.
Things are going from bad to worse at Bobby Dodd. James Graham loses the ball on a sack, but the GT offense recovers to set up 3rd and 29 on their own 6. A 13 yard rush by Jamious Griffin isn't enough, and GT is forced to punt yet again.
On the next Hokies drive, safety Christian Campbell is called for targeting and ejected from the game.
Continuing the drive, VT is stopped at the goal line with Tariq Carpenter almost intercepting the ball on a trick play. Hokies forced to take a 22 yard field goal.
Virginia Tech 31, Georgia Tech 0.
Tech goes three-and-out yet again and the Hokies kneel it out to end the half.

6 of Georgia Tech’s 8 drives have ended in three-and-outs.
Halftime Stats:
Analysis at the Half:
- Offensively, there really isn't much to analyze. The Hokies have quadruple the amount of offense that the Yellow Jackets do (299-48), and GT has converted on just 1 third down. If there is any hope of a miracle comeback, the Jackets must get into an offensive rhythm
.- Defensively, GT is getting absolutely gashed. Virginia Tech is doing well distributing the ball on offense, with Hendon Hooker completing passes to 5 different receivers and the Hokies averaging 7.4 yards per carry on the ground.
THIRD QUARTER:
GT begins the half with an onside kick attempt that fails. However a tackle for loss followed by a sack puts the Hokies on 3rd and 21, with VT failing to convert. The resulting punt pins the Yellow Jackets on their own 7.
Georgia Tech gains a first down, but Graham is hit as he throws and ball falls into the lap of a Hokie defender. Virginia Tech takes advantage of the great field position and gets their 5th touchdown of the day.
Virginia Tech 38, Georgia Tech 0.
Once again, GT can't get anything going offensively, going three-and-out for the 7th time.
Linebacker Charlie Thomas, who has been limited in recent weeks due to injury, is slow to get up on the 3rd down play of the next VT drive.
Halfway through the third quarter, both teams have opted to go with their backup QBs. Jordan Yates for GT, Quincy Patterson II for VT.
After a 64 yard strike from Patterson II, GT LB Demetrius Knight goes down as well.
Like the starter, VT's backup QB can punch it in as well. Patterson II takes it from 2 yards to give the Hokies their sixth touchdown of the game.
Virginia Tech 45, Georgia Tech 0.
The Yellow Jackets are assisted by the Hokies on a 4th down roughing the snapper penalty, allowing the GT drive to continue into the fourth quarter.
Stats after 3Q:
FOURTH QUARTER:
Backup QB Jordan Yates and WR Malachi Carter help to orchestrate GT's first drive beyond midfield, but the 4th down scramble by Yates comes up just short and results in a turnover on downs.
Update: the call is overturned and allows the GT drive to keep going, but the drive stalls nonetheless.
The Hokies attempted to continue their onslaught after the turnover on downs, but the defense made a rare goal line stand on 4th down, inheriting the ball at the 3 yard line.
The Yellow Jackets are able to get this drive past the 50 yard line as well, but it also stalls for yet another turnover on downs. The Hokies gain a first down and kneel it out to end the game.
