Georgia Tech Softball Falls To No. 5 Clemson 9-1 in Five Innings

Georgia Tech could not keep up with one of the best teams in the country

Georgia Tech Softball had quite the challenge in front of them tonight against Clemson, one of the top teams in the ACC and in the country.

Georgia Tech is 16-12 so far this season and 2-4 in the ACC. Clemson was 29-1 and 6-0 in the ACC heading into the game.

Georgia Tech started Blake Neleman in this game and the Tigers had Valerie Cagle pitching and she is one of the top pitchers in the country.

Neleman struck out her first batter but walked her next and gave up a home run to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead. Another walk and home run gave Clemson a 4-0 lead and Neleman's night was done already and she was replaced by Sophia Voyles.

Voyles proceeded to give up two walks and an RBI single to extend the Clemson lead to 5-0. A double play ended the inning, but the Yellow Jackets were in an early hole.

Georgia Tech could not score enough runs against Clemson tonight

The offense got off to a good start against one of the top pitchers in the country though. Emma Kauf walked and stole second and then Mallorie Black had an RBI single to put the Yellow Jackets on the board and make it 5-1.

Clemson continued to add runs on in the second and hit a solo home run, but Tech kept the damage to just that one run and trailed 6-1 in the bottom of the second. Kinsey Norton replaced Voyles at pitcher.

Tech went down 1-2-3 with three strikeouts to head to the 3rd.

Norton got a strong start to her appearance in the game and sat down the Tigers lineup in order.

After a strikeout, Kauf got a double to get a runner in scoring position with one out. Tech could not get any more hits and it was a struggle for the rest of the game.

The offense struggled all game and Clemson tacked on three more runs before the game ended in the 5th.

Clemson is one of the best teams in the country and a tough matchup for anyone. Hopefully, the offense can get going for GT in game two.

This loss drops GT to 16-13 overall and 2-5 in the ACC.

Game two is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.
