Georgia Tech Softball marched into a Tuesday night showdown against cross-town foe, the Georgia State Panthers, looking for their third straight win. The team is coming off their second-straight ACC series win at Pittsburgh this past weekend where the team rallied behind a hot offensive showing. The Jackets continued their high performances on offense from the weekend on Tuesday as Tech got their night going in the second inning.

The scoring began when freshman catcher Reese Hunter singled a ball into left field which brought home junior catcher Sara Beth Allen to kick the score to 1-0 in favor of Tech. Not long later, the Panthers pitcher gave the Yellow Jackets another score as she walked sophomore outfielder Ella Edgmon which brought home sophomore Emma Minghini to knock the score up to 2-0 Tech. After an out, sophomore Grace Connelly came up to the plate to put the Jackets up huge. With bases loaded, Connelly smacked a ball to deep left field that went right over the fence, marking a huge Grand Slam for Tech that put the Jackets up 6-0. Tech did not produce any more runs in the game as GSU got themselves out of the inning, but the onslaught of runs in the second would be enough to finish the Panthers off.

Tech and State went three innings at a stalemate until the Panthers broke their first run of the evening off a double to left field that brought in one run, pushing the score to 6-1. It was smooth sailing from there as senior pitcher Chandler Dennis put the game away.

Dennis remained on the bump the entire contest allowing just 3 hits while dishing 3 strike outs. Connelly led the team from the plate with her grand slam while five other Jackets logged a hit in the game. All in all it was a productive day from the team and a solid win over a decent GSU team.

The Jackets will be back in action against Alabama State tomorrow as they welcome the Hornets to Mewborn before traveling to Durham, NC this weekend to take on Duke for another ACC series.
