Above all, Jerry Krause was a teacher.

Krause died Wednesday night at the age of 87, but he leaves behind a coaching legacy at Gonzaga, Eastern Washington and throughout the Pacific Northwest.

He was the head men's basketball coach at Eastern Washington from 1967-85, then later served as Mark Few's Director of Basketball Operations from 2001 to 2015. He also assisted the GU women's basketball program.

"I am sad to hear the news about Jerry, but what a life he had," Few said in a statement released by Gonzaga. "He had a big impact on all of us, especially Dan Monson, me, Billy Grier, Leon Rice, and those of us that kind of came up as young coaches back in the day."

On the latest episode of the Gonzaga Nation podcast, former Zags' All-American Dan Dickau talks about Krause's legacy and the impact he had on players and coaches throughout the Pacific Northwest.

"He had a passion for teaching the game of basketball,” said Dickau.
