San Francisco (21-7, 10-3 WCC) fell to conference-leading Saint Mary's in a tight 70-66 defeat on Tuesday, but that was just the Dons' third WCC loss of the season, with all three coming against SMC (twice) and Gonzaga.
San Francisco is a strong team all around and currently ranks second in the conference in offense (78.6 ppg) and defense (65.2 ppg), and third in average margin of victory (13.4 ppg).
The Dons have been led all season by forward Jonathan Mogbo. The junior standout leads the WCC in rebounds, steals and field goal percentage, and is also in the top 10 for scoring, assists, blocks and assist/turnover ratio.
He is looking like a prime candidate to take home the men's WCC Player of the Year award.
Pepperdine (12-17, 5-9 WCC) has struggled to find consistency this year, but the Waves enter this matchup having won three of their last four games.
Michael Ajayi and Houston Mallette have provided a solid one-two punch for them this season. Ajayi leads the WCC in scoring (17.7 ppg) and Mallette sits in fifth with 15.0 ppg.
In Pepperdine's 89-70 win over Pacific on Wednesday, Ajayi recorded his 14th double-double with game-highs of 30 points and 17 rebounds.
He is now tied for fifth all-time on the Waves' single-season double-double leaderboard.
