San Diego (10-9, 0-4 WCC) won 10 of its first 15 games to begin the season, but the Toreros have not been able to find their footing in conference play, losing all four of their WCC games thus far.
After consecutive losses to three of the top four teams in the conference (Saint Mary's, Gonzaga and San Francisco), they looked to be well on their way to their first WCC victory at home against Pepperdine on Saturday, but the Toreros squandered a 15-point lead eventually losing 83-77.
Despite being without their leading scorer (Decuce Tuner), five players finished the game with at least 10 points.
Portland (7-11, 1-2 WCC) had a rough go of it last week, losing to both Saint Mary's and San Francisco on the road by at least 25 points.
The Pilots have now lost six of their last seven games, and would be winless in conference play if not for their lone victory against Pacific earlier this month.
The biggest bright spot for Portland this year has been the stellar play of senior Tyler Robertson, who is currently third in the WCC in scoring with 15.9 ppg.
