WATCH: Iowa Locker Room Celebrates Fran McCaffery's Record-Setting Victory

Fran McCaffery got win No. 272 as the Iowa coach on Monday, with the Hawkeyes defeating Minnesota 86-77. He's now the program's all-time wins leader, passing Tom Davis. The Hawkeyes celebrated the achievement appropriately.

Iowa's 86-77 victory over Minnesota on Monday was a special one for Fran McCaffery. In his 14th season with the Hawkeyes, the coach passed Tom Davis to become the program's all-time wins leader.

Monday's victory marked the 272nd of McCaffery's time in Iowa City. He reached the impressive milestone after the Hawkeyes ripped off three straight Big Ten wins to improve to 3-3 in league play this season.

Players waited patiently for their leader to return to the locker room, and when McCaffery walked in, the entire team celebrated appropriately.

Is there a better way to celebrate such an impressive achievement? McCaffery didn't seem to mind the shower, either.

After Monday's win over the Gophers, McCaffery was emotional in an interview with Big Ten Network's Stephen Bardo.

"It means a lot," McCaffery said, fighting back tears. "To be compared to Tom Davis — I came here 14 years ago, never thought this would happen."

McCaffery has posted a 272-182 record during his time in Iowa City. He's led the Hawkeyes to seven NCAA Tournament appearances and three trips to the NIT.

In 2022, McCaffery's Hawkeyes won the Big Ten Tournament championship.

Davis set the record after an impressive run in Iowa City, winning 271 games from 1986-99.

McCaffery gets an opportunity to build on his win total Saturday, when the Hawkeyes host Purdue (2 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1).
