Kate Martin traveled to New York City in support of her Iowa teammate and close friend, Caitlin Clark. The latter was going to be the first pick in Monday's WNBA Draft. Turned out, tagging along led to an amazing memory for Martin.

The WNBA champion Las Vegas chose Martin with the 18th overall pick. She joined Hawkeye great Megan Gustafson with the Aces.

“I’m so proud of Kate because her dreams came true," Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said in a university press release. "She has been such a big part of our program over the last six years. Her efforts did not go unnoticed by her peers. I wish Kate all the success with this next step.”

Martin was the first Iowa women’s basketball player to have accumulate 900+ points, 500+ rebounds, 400+ assists, 120+ steals, and 60+ blocks in a career. The Edwardsville (Ill.) High product joined Clark and Sam Logic as the only Hawkeyes to net 1,200+ points, 700+ rebounds, and 450+ assists.
