First quarter

13:33 — Hawkeyes go 3-and-out, and then the punt is blocked and goes 11 yards. Not a good start.

11:57 — Hawkeyes force a 3-and-out, with two sacks of Penn State's Sean Clifford. They'll take over at their own 17.

Timeout — Ricky Stanzi was interviewed during the timeout. He dropped a "Love it or leave it," and the place went crazy.

8:31 — Iowa gets two first downs on the next possession, but the drive stalls near midfield.

7:40 — Two possessions for each team. Iowa has 33 yards of offense, Penn State has minus-7.

2:12 — Iowa got to the Penn State 20, but a 9-yard sack of Nate Stanley took the momentum away. Keith Duncan ended the 11-play, 38-yard drive with a 47-yard field goal. Iowa 3-0.

0:03 — Penn State gets its first first down of the game, but Clifford was stopped for a loss, and then threw a third-down incompletion to end the drive.

• Iowa has a 10:23-4:27 time of possession edge.

Second Quarter

14:16 — Iowa's drive goes three-and-out. Michael Sleep-Dalton made up for that earlier 11-yard punt by kicked a 53-yarder. A penalty on the Nittany Lions on the return puts the ball at the Penn State 15.

8:36 — Penn State takes the lead after a 15-play, 85-yard drive. The TD pass from Sean Clifford to K.J. Hamler was a pass into the flat that linebacker Nick Niemann nearly intercepted. Hamler raced up the right sideline, then leaped over two Iowa defenders to score. That drive took 5:40 off the clock. Penn State 7, Iowa 3.

5:01 — The Hawkeyes finally got a big play, a 29-yard run by Tyler Goodson that showed the freshman's speed and ability. Goodson hesitated just enough for the hole to develop, and then raced through the opening to the Penn State 29-yard line.

But Iowa couldn't keep the drive going. Then Duncan's 44-yard field goal went wide right.

1:53 — The Nittany Lions kept a streak going of third-down conversions. They had two on their next drive for six consecutive conversions before the Hawkeyes stopped the possession.

0:20 — Nate Stanley was looked to be sacked near his own goal line, but a defensive holding call saved Iowa's drive. Then the Hawkeyes moved down field.

Two completions to Nate Wieting — hey, look, the tight ends are involved in the passing game — totaled 36 yards. Then a deep pass to Ihmir Smith-Marsette put the ball at the Penn State 4.

But the Hawkeyes couldn't get any more out of the possession. A minus-1 yard run by Mekhi Sargent and then two incompletions by Stanley forced Iowa into a field-goal situation. Duncan hit from 24 yards.

As the Hawkeyes left the field, Stanley was holding his right elbow. Penn State 7, Iowa 6.

Third quarter

10:32 — Penn State moved into Iowa territory to start the half, but a sack from A.J. Epenesa ended the drive at midfield. The Nittany Lions downed the punt at the Iowa 3.

7:50 — Stanley had a nice 17-yard pass to Smith-Marsette on the second play of the possession. But Penn State's Robert Windsor put Stanley in a knot for a sack on the next play, stalling the drive.

Tonight's attendance: 69.034. The Hawkeyes and Nittany Lions thank you.

3:47 — The first turnover of the night was incredibly costly.

Iowa's Tyler Goodson took a handoff and was immediately smothered by two Penn State defenders. Goodson lost the ball, and the Nittany Lions recovered at the Hawkeyes' 16-yard line.

Three plays later, Clifford threw what looked like a 16-yard touchdown pass to Pat Freiermuth, but his knee was down just inches from the goal line. Journey Brown was stopped short of the goal line on second down , then Clifford threw an incomplete pass out the back of the end zone. The Nittany Lions were called for holding on the play, and Clifford ran left for what looked like another touchdown.

Again, there was holding on Penn State, pushing the ball back to the Iowa 21. Clifford was stopped for a short game, then Jake Pinegar kicked a 33-yard field goal.

All of that turned into a 6-play, 1-yard drive for the Nittany Lions. Penn State 10, Iowa 6.

Another look at the overturned touchdown.

10:13 — Another Penn State drive into Iowa territory stalls. The Hawkeyes will start from their own 4-yard line.

9:10 — Another penalty on the Nittany Lions bails Iowa out of a deep hole in its own territory, then Stanley throws an interception. Hawkeyes are getting nothing offensively.

5:17 — Penn State likely has put this game away. Noah Cain's 5-yard touchdown run increases the Nittany Lions' lead. Penn State 17, Iowa 6.

2:31 — The Hawkeyes finally got a touchdown, a 33-yarder from Stanley to Brandon Smith.

Penn State runs out the clock. Nittany Lions win, 17-12, We're done here.
