Iowa Hawkeyes Land Commitment From Intriguing WR

Brody Schaffer has played quarterback at the high school level but he's exactly the type of do-everything athlete who seems to find success with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

In this story:

The Iowa Hawkeyes have reached into Wisconsin to pull out one of the top 2026 recruits from the state, and that's a huge deal for Kirk Ferentz and his staff.

Brody Schaffer is a 3-star wide receiver from Winneconne, Wisconsin and he announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes on Wednesday.

"Coach Ferentz, Coach Budmayr, Coach Barnes, and the entire Iowa football coaching staff believed in me and gave me this opportunity, and I am forever grateful for that. I'm proud to announce that I have found my home and I will be committing to the University of Iowa," Schaffer wrote on social media.

This is a big deal for Iowa if only because it's a big deal anytime the Hawkeyes can reach into a neighboring state and pull a top recruit away from a Big Ten rival. Wisconsin has not (yet) offered Schaffer, but he is ranked as the No. 3 recruit in the state, according to the 247Sports Composite.

It will be interesting to see if the Badgers decide to get involved now that Schaffer is going to be heading to Iowa City, but the 3-star wideout's announcement does make it seem like he's all-in with the Hawkeyes. Other schools to have offered include Northwestern, Washington State, Yale, North Dakota State and Cornell, amongst others.

Though Iowa is recruiting him as a wide receiver, Schaffer is a pure athlete at the high school level. He played quarterback for Winneconne High School in his junior season and threw for 1,800 yards and 18 touchdowns while rushing for 1,774 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Schaffer is the type of undervalued athlete who goes to Iowa and ends up being a major contributor, so he's undoubtedly a big-time pickup for the Hawkeyes.
