Kentucky not included in FOX SPORTS college basketball preseason Top 25 rankings
Another day, another college basketball preseason Top 25 ranking, this one coming from FOX SPORTS writer and broadcaster John Fanta. And as we have seen a handful of times, the industry is still unsure what to make of John Calipari's Kentucky Wildcats.
Fanta does not include Kentucky in his Top 25, nor are they among his five teams that 'just missed,' a group that included Wisconsin, Colorado, UCLA, Boise State, and Memphis.
In fact, the SEC made up just three of the 30 spots: Arkansas (9), Tennessee (15), and Texas A&M (16).
Kentucky lost a ton of talent from last year's roster, including former NPOY Oscar Tshiebwe, lottery pick Cason Wallace, fellow NBA draft selection Chris Livingston, and multiple transfers, including Sahvir Wheeler, CJ Fredrick, and Lance Ware.
However, this team has the top-ranked recruiting class coming to Lexington, headlined by DJ Wagner and Justin Edwards, and the return of Antonio Reeves and the addition of big man Tre Mitchell via the transfer portal should keep this team plenty competitive.
How they do will ultimately come down to how the rest of the roster adjusts to Division 1 hoops, as the depth on this team will largely be freshmen like Zvonomir Ivisic, Aaron Bradshaw, Rob Dillingham, and Reed Shepherd, as well as sophomores Ugonna Onyenso and Adou Thiero.
For those wanting a closer look at how this team is coming together, the team's Big Blue Madness event will take place this Friday.
