One thing that comes with a coaching change is that many of the players committed to the previous coach, more times than not, won't play for the new coach.

This is just the reality of a school bringing in a new coach, and that is happening in Lexington.

The Wildcats have already lost the commitments of Karter Knox, Jayden Quaintance, and Somto Cyril. Now, you can add Boogie Fland to that list, as he just requested a release from his National Letter of Intent (NLI).

This one was expected but still stings as Fland put on a show at the McDonald's All-American Game and will be an elite scorer in college basketball before moving on to the NBA.

As we have said, with every signee/commit that has left Kentucky, it will be interesting to see if Fland follows Coach John Calipari to Arkansas or perhaps goes to Indiana, which was the other school that was neck and neck with Kentucky on the recruiting trail for a while.

Fland would have been a perfect fit for Coach Mark Pope's offense as he is a good passer and can shoot the three-ball. In Coach Pope's offense, the basketball is always moving, leading to open threes and a lot of assists.

If I had to make a guess, I would say Fland will either end up in Fayetteville with Coach Cal or in Indiana.

It's tough to lose a player this talented if you're a Kentucky fan, but it truly is just part of the coaching turnover. Coach Pope will go get his guys in the portal and make this team competitive immediately.
