Mark Pope has officially been hired as the next head basketball coach of the Kentucky Wildcats, and his style of play will excite Kentucky fans.

Last season, BYU shot the second most three-pointers per game in all of college hoops, shooting 32 per contest. Pope's squad was third in college hoops in threes made per game at 11.1.

Coach Pope is going to want to shoot the basketball, and he will recruit players who aren't afraid to throw up some three-pointers.

Teams that live and die by the three are liable to make runs in the NCAA Tournament but also lose early, as we saw for BYU this season.

The key for Pope is to recruit a bunch of talented players in the portal who can come in and do exactly what he wants. One guy who makes sense is former Texas A&M Aggie Wade Taylor IV. He was a Kentucky killer last season as the Aggies were 2-0 against John Calipari's final Kentucky team. Taylor IV had a massive game, sending the Wildcats home from the SEC Tournament and he can shoot the three.

This style of basketball is a lot of fun for fans, and if the Wildcats are able to play a little bit of defense, this team can be good quickly.

Now, the key for Coach Pope is for him to get here, say hello to Big Blue Nation, and find players in the transfer portal who can make this team competitive next season.

Pope has been successful at BYU using the portal, and I expect that success to carry over to Kentucky.
