Report: Louisville's Brandon Huntley-Hatfield, Tre White to Enter Transfer Portal

The duo for the Cardinals are the first to hit the portal since UofL's reported hiring of Pat Kelsey as head coach.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - With Louisville men's basketball program on the verge of hiring a new head coach, two of their top players from this past season are deciding to move on.

Junior forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and sophomore guard Tre White are both planning on entering their names into the transfer portal, according to On3's Joe Tipton.

Huntley-Hatfield and White are the first two Cardinals to enter the portal following UofL's reported hiring of Charleston's Pat Kelsey as their next head coach. In total, nine players have entered the portal since the offseason began. So far, Guard Ty-Laur Johnson, forward/center Emmanual Okorafor and walk-on guard Hercy Miller are the lone Cardinals in line to return.

Huntley-Hatfield joined Mike James as one of just two players to start all 32 games for Louisville this past season, and he was arguably their top player from the 2023-24 season. The 6-foot-10, 240-pound forward finished as the Cardinals' second-leading scorer behind Skyy Clark at 12.9 points per game, was their leading rebounder at 8.4 boards per game, and he led the team in shooting with a 56.7 field goal percentage.

After spending his true freshman year at Tennessee, the Clarksville, Tenn. native and former five-star prospect transferred to Louisville when Kenny Payne was hired as the head coach ahead of the 2022-23 season. That year, Huntley-Hatfield appeared in 24 games with 21 started, averaging 6.7 points and a team-best 5.4 rebounds per game.

In White's lone season at Louisville, the 6-foot-7, 205-pound guard/forward was one of the Cardinals' more consistent interior scoring options and rebounders. Playing in 29 game with 26 starts, he averaged the fourth-most points per game on the team at 12.3, while his 5.9 rebounds per game was second. His 45.6 field goal percentage was third on the team, and his 106 made two-point field goals was second.

The Napa, Calif native spent his true freshman campaign at USC before transferring to Louisville. He made an immediate impact, averaging 9.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while also shooting 47.4 percent from the field. He was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team for his efforts, and helped the Trojans go 22-11 with a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The influx of transfers following the end of Louisville's season is not a surprising development. The Cardinals finished their 2023-24 campaign with an overall record of just 8-24 and 3-17 in ACC play, resulting in the dismissal second-year head coach Kenny Payne.
