Louisville men’s basketball coach Chris Mack has wanted Steven Enoch to play with a high motor. The senior center finally can.

Enoch spent the offseason getting in the best possible shape and gave a glimpse of his potential in the annual Red/White Scrimmage Oct. 12 at the KFC Yum! Center. Enoch finished with 21 points, going 8 of 10 from the field, along with six rebounds and two assists.

“He [Enoch] is mighty impressive,” Mack said. “He is going against a freshman, but he has gotten a whole lot better.”

Enoch was guarded by freshmen Aidan Igiehon and Quinn Slazinski, but that doesn’t dismiss the fact that he played the complete 20 minutes. His offseason conditioning workouts will allow him to stay in games longer this year.

“He took a step back and looked at his game from an outside perspective and said ‘What do I need to improve on?’” senior Ryan McMahon said. “I think he realized he was so effective when he wasn’t tired.”

Enoch scored in a variety of ways. He had a several jump hooks, spinning into the lane or moving along the baseline. His first basket came on a corner 3-pointer. Enoch also went 3 of 4 from the free throw line.

“He [Enoch] can shoot the ball, he can run the floor, he can post, he can score with either hand,” senior Dwayne Sutton said. “That’s going to help our team in a lot of ways.”

Mack said Enoch’s next question becomes if he can stay consistent.

“There are going to be games he is going to get in foul trouble,” Mack said. “If he plays with that motor, he is going to be tough to handle. He is so skilled.”

Enoch averaged 9.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 19.2 minutes per game last season.
