'24 Wing Karter Knox Includes Louisville in Top Eight

The Florida wing is one of the top prospects in the 2024 cycle.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - On the heels of inking a highly-ranked 2023 recruiting class, the Louisville men's basketball program is starting to parlay that momentum into the 2024 cycle.

Tampa (Fla.) Catholic small forward Karter Knox, one of the top prospects in the Class of 2024, announced his top eight schools on Saturday with the Cardinals making the cut. Auburn, Arkansas, Florida State, Kentucky, LSU, South Florida and the NBA G-League are also still in the running for his commitment.

Kenny Payne identified Knox as a target very early on his tenure as Louisville's head coach, offering him a scholarship last June. He was just the second 2024 prospect to receive a Louisville offer, behind only Modesto (Calif.) Christian shooting guard Jamari Phillips, and took an official visit last October during the weekend of Louisville Live.

There's also a family connection to Payne. Knox's older brother Kevin, who currently plays for the Portland Trailblazers, played for Payne when he was an assistant coach at Kentucky. Kevin was selected by the New York Knicks with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

"Coach Payne, I've known him a long time," Knox told 247Sports last month. "Ever since Kevin was being recruited I've been around him so since I was like 12 years old. He really helped my big brother get to the NBA. You know he snapped on him when he needed to, got him out of his comfort zone and he's like another uncle to me.

"What stood out on the visit was the coaching. They are a really great coaching staff. They weren't as good as a team in the first year but I'm worried about the future. That first season is in the past, I'm not worried about that."

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound wing is a consensus five-star prospect amongst the four major recruiting services. He ranks as high as the No. 7 prospect according to both ESPN and On3, and is the No. 8 player in the 2024 cycle according to the 247Sports Composite.

Knox was a stat sheet stuffer during his junior season for Tampa Catholic. He put up 19.8 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocks per game, while also shooting 50 percent from the field. In three years at the high school level, he has amassed 1,621 points, 653 rebounds, 211 assists, 130 steals and 90 blocks.

Louisville currently sports just one commitment in the 2024 cycle, coming in the form of Montclair (N.J.) Immaculate Conception point guard T.J. Robinson. As of this writing, the Cardinals have offered eight uncommitted prospects in the cycle.
