Report: Louisville Reaches Out to Vanderbilt Transfer Myles Stute

The former Commodore led the SEC in three-point shooting percentage last season.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Ever since the Louisville men's basketball program's season ended just over a week ago, head coach Kenny Payne and the rest of his staff have been hard at work identifying potential players to pursue for next year's roster.

The latest target is former Vanderbilt forward Myles Stute, who entered the transfer portal this past Monday on the first day of the portal's 60-day transfer window. According to On3's Joe Tipton, the Cardinals have been one of several schools to reach out to him following his decision to transfer.

The 6-foot-7, 215-pound junior has been a regular fixture of the Commodores' starting rotation for the past two seasons. This year, Stute averaged 8.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 34.7 percent from the field and 36.1 percent on three-point attempts. He had three 20+ point performances, and 14 games where he made at least three three-point attempts.

Stute's sophomore season was arguably better due to his efficiency. The Washington, D.C. native put up comparable numbers at 8.5 points and 3.7 rebounds in 36 games and 30 starts, but shot 44.8 percent overall and 43.2 percent on threes. The latter led the SEC, and would have been good for seventh in all of D1 had he qualified nationally.

Roster management for the 2023-24 season has been in full swing for Louisville since the end of their 4-28 campaign. The Cardinals have already seen five players enter the portal: freshman Kamari Lands, freshman forward Devin Ree, freshman guard Fabio Basili and senior forward Sydney Curry.

Conversely, Payne and company have already started adding pieces, and more could be on the way soon. Louisville landed five-star 2023 center Dennis Evans earlier this week, and UofL is seen as the presumptive leaders for former Illinois guard Skyy Clark and 2024 five-star wing Trentyn Flowers. Clark visited campus on Tuesday, and Flowers is set to commit this Friday - and could potentially reclassify to 2023.
