LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville men's basketball incoming freshman Trentyn Flowers has made the first cut for USA Basketball's U-19 training camp, USA Basketball announced Monday.

Flowers was one of 30 players from the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes who were invited to training camp at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. for a chance at making the 2023 USA U19 Men's National Team. On Monday, following four training sessions, that list was cut down to 18 finalists, which included Flowers.

Also making the first cut alongside Flowers were Mark Armstrong, Tobe Awaka, Omaha Biliew, Kylan Boswell, Kanon Catchings, Myles Colvin, Eric Dailey Jr., Freddie Dilione, Jeremy Fears Jr., Dylan Harper, Ian Jackson, Tre Johnson, Ven-Allen Lubin, Asa Newell, Cameron Scott, Ernest Udeh and Cody Williams.

These finalists will compete for 12 spots on the U19 Men's National Team that will compete at the 2023 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup, which will take place on June 24-July 2 in Debrecen, Hungary.

Originally a member of the Class of 2024 before reclassifying to the 2023 cycle when he committed to Louisville in March, the 6-foot-8, 210-pound guard/forward ranks as high as the No. 4 small forward and the No. 18 player in the 2024 cycle, according to ESPN. He is a 247Sports Composite five-star prospect in the 2023 class, coming in as the No. 23 overall player in the nation according to the metric.

Flowers had an extremely productive freshman campaign for Huntington (W.Va) Prep, averaging 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists per game. He transferred to Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon midway through his sophomore year, then later transferred to Combine Academy last summer, where has averaged 16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in 26 games during his junior year.

The 2023-24 roster for Louisville will look radically different from that of last season's, which went 4-28 under first year head coach Kenny Payne. Seven players entered the transfer portal, with only Mike James, J.J. Traynor, Brandon Huntley-Hatfield and Emmanuel Okorafor being the scholarship returners for year two under Payne. Hercy Miller is also back, but has been reverted to a walk-on.

Conversely, Payne and his staff have landed nine newcomers. They are set to bring in transfers Skyy Clark, Tre White and Danilo Jovanovich; 2023 prospects Flowers, Dennis Evans, Kaleb Glenn, Curtis Williams Jr. and Ty-Laur Johnson; plus JUCO transfer Koron Davis. According to 247Sports, their high school recruiting class comes in at No. 5 nationally, while their transfer class is 27th.

Seven of the nine newcomers - including Flowers - recently moved onto campus back on May 29, with the lone holdouts being Johnson and Davis. A school representative tells Louisville Report that the duo are “scheduled to arrive later in the summer.”
