Watch: Louisville HC Jeff Brohm Talks Start of Spring Practice
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville football program is back in action.
On Tuesday, the Cardinals officially kicked off their 2023 spring practice, holding their first practice session inside L&N Stadium. It's the second spring ball under head coach Jeff Brohm, who is coming off of a 10-4 campaign in his first season at the helm.
"You know what, I thought we had a good first day of practice," Brohm said. "I think our guys worked hard, they gave good effort today. I think they want to be good, and they want to succeed."
The program is holding 15 total practice sessions, six of which are completely open to the public. It will all culminate with the spring game, which is set to take place on Friday, Apr. 19 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
Since Tuesday was the first organized practice since the end of the 2023 season, the start to spring ball was kept relatively simple and relegated to mainly day one scheme installs and things of that nature.
"We got a long ways to go, without question," Brohm said. "A lot of new faces. They've got to work hard to get better, put all the time in to get it done, and be able to play fast right now. There's a lot of thinking going on, a lot of mistakes that we got to correct. In order to win at a high level, you've got to be at your best.
"We've got a long ways to go but I do like the makeup of our team. They've worked hard to this point, they've had a good offseason with the weight room and conditioning. Now we just got to utilize these 15 practices as much as we can, and really, really get better and study the game, and study what we need to do in order to win."
Following their first practice the preseason, Brohm, took time to meet with the media. He discussed what he saw in the first day of spring ball, how the players have adjusted with so many newcomers, various position groups, and more.
