Matt McMahon and the LSU Tigers are fresh off of the biggest weekend of the year on the recruiting trail after hosting four blue-chip prospects and securing their first 2024 commitment of the cycle.

Four-star forward Robert Miller III became the first pledge of the cycle after revealing his decision Friday morning.

The announcement set the tone for a big-time weekend on the recruiting trail for this program.

The Latest on the Recruiting Trail: Men’s Hoops Edition

The Commitment: Robert Miller III

The 6-foot-10 forward is one of the most intriguing players in the 2024 class with his combination of height and length. The physical tools Miller attains gives him the chance to be impactful on both ends of the floor, giving McMahon a dynamic two-way player moving forward.

It’s easy to label Miller as “raw” given the various ways the Tigers can mold his game, but he’s extremely skilled for his size. A player who has worked with former NBA talent TJ Ford, he’s helped bring Miller’s game to that next level.

Miller has taken strides in the right direction with his scoring ability, rim protection and ball handling as he becomes a more complete player.

Now, as the four-star forward prepares for his senior campaign, Miller has the chance to continue taking that step in his game with another gear to reach before making his way to Baton Rouge next summer.

Bucket-Getter

There’s much to like about what Miller can become on the defensive end of the floor, but for now, he’s a bucket-getter. A player who can get his from all three levels, there’s intrigue in what the dynamic scorer can do in McMahon’s system.

LSU lacked that “go get one” player last season, and after adding various talents via the Transfer Portal this offseason, they’ll likely find their go-to guy in 2023-24. Fast forward to next year and the Tigers will have instant offense in Miller.

He’s a player who has shown advancements in his deep ball while polishing his midrange and paint production. The long, 6-foot-10 frame makes him a tough player to slow down. The SEC recently saw Auburn’s Jabari Smith become a lethal three-level scorer and Miller has an opportunity to become effective as one as well while his game develops before making the move to Baton Rouge.

The Visits: What We’re Hearing

Rakease Passmore… LSU has put its foot on the gas for Passmore. The Top 50 prospect in the 2024 class is at the top of their list and the coaching staff has prioritized him in a big way. After making his way to Baton Rouge for the weekend, the Tigers have him circled moving forward. Passmore will take his visits elsewhere, but LSU will be in the mix for this one.

Derik Queen… For LSU to get Queen on campus is a big victory for this program and proves recruits are listening to what is being sold. The expectation is that Queen, a five-star center in the 2024 class, will take his talents elsewhere, but the Tigers made a move in getting the coveted prospect down South for the weekend.

Gicarri Harris… Harris is in the same boat as Passmore. He’s a prospect LSU has prioritized in a big way and will turn the heat up for down the stretch after a productive visit to Baton Rouge over the weekend.

Nic Codie… Codie was the fourth official visitor of the weekend for the Tigers. The No. 1 player in Texas made his way to town which gave LSU another monster visitor. He’s highly-regarded by the staff, but it’ll be a tough battle to secure his services with a month and a half until the Early Signing Period.
