LSU WBB: Kim Mulkey, LSU Surging On Recruiting Trail

In this story:
Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers continue surging on the recruiting trail after a busy month of visits from the nation’s top prospects.
The reigning National Champions received official visits from the No. 1 prospect (Sarah Strong), the No. 2 prospect (Joyce Edwards) and the No. 4 prospect (Kate Koval) during September with LSU entering “seal the deal” mode.
The trio of top 2024 prospects have made their visits down South with in-home visits also in line as Mulkey and her staff turn up the heat for the sought-after recruits.
Here’s the latest on each:
Sarah Strong: No. 1 Prospect in America
The top prospect in the 2024 class made her way to Baton Rouge for an official visit in September alongside Koval as the two soaked in the scenes of Death Valley. It was a weekend that went “great” for Strong as she continues locking in on a decision.
For LSU, they feel pleased with their connection with Strong, but she’s in no rush to make a decision it appears. The five-star has also taken an official visit to Oregon with a trip to Louisville also on deck. UCONN is also in line to receive an official as well with Strong.
Mulkey and Co. have made their pitch and will have the staff go in-home for a visit as the Tigers continue developing a relationship with the No. 1 prospect.
Strong played USA Basketball with current LSU freshman Mikaylah Williams over the summer with their relationship giving the Tigers another X-factor in her recruitment.
Joyce Edwards: No. 2 Prospect in America
Edwards is the latest elite-level prospect to make her way to Baton Rouge after taking an official visit last weekend. The No. 2 prospect in the 2024 class was in town for the LSU-Arkansas game where she got to soak in the Death Valley atmosphere while taking time with the coaching staff during her three-day stay.
It’s simple. Edwards is a game-changer and LSU is putting its foot on the gas in order to lock down her services, but their competitors aren’t going down without a fight and Edwards is in no rush to shut down her process.
She’s set to take visits over the next few weeks to Stanford and South Carolina with Texas A&M also looking to secure a visit. For LSU, South Carolina remains a team to monitor given it’s the hometown team.
The Tigers will also send their staff in-home for a visit with Edwards as she locks in on a decision over the next few weeks.
Kate Koval: No. 4 Prospect in America
Koval was in town alongside Strong for an official visit in early September where LSU walked away feeling confident in their position for the five-star forward.
She’s a player the Tigers understand can step in and make an immediate impact with this program turning up the heat.
Over the weekend, Koval took an official visit to Notre Dame with the Fighting Irish emerging as a threat in her recruitment, but despite this, LSU feels strong.
LSU and Notre Dame were her top two schools, and with officials now in the rearview mirror, it’s decision time for the blue-chip 2024 prospect.
Could she pop sooner rather than later? Time will tell, but the Tigers are certainly putting significant effort into this one with an in-home visit on the horizon.
The 6-foot-4 beast out of Ukraine would be a monster get for the Tigers as they continue retooling their frontcourt for the future. Look for LSU to put a full-court press on Koval soon with Notre Dame entering the mix in a big way.
