Brian Kelly continues his quest at locking down the state of Louisiana after the top dual-sport athlete in the state, Trey’Dez Green, announced his commitment to LSU on Wednesday.

Green, the state’s No. 2 overall prospect on the football field, is also Louisiana’s No. 1 power forward on the hardwood.

After releasing a Top 5 of LSU, Miami, Tennessee, Alabama and Texas A&M, Kelly and his Tigers now secure the Top 5 tight end in the 2024 class.

Green is commit No. 14 in the 2024 class after the Tigers also welcomed four-star safety Dashawn McBryde on Saturday after the Spring Game.

For Kelly and the Tigers to continue their hot streak on the recruiting trail, as the trajectory of this program continues to trend positively, shows the long-term goals of this team.

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound tight end/wide receiver has been on a steady rise throughout high school, but a productive junior campaign has seen his recruitment take off. Green has added several SEC offers over the last few months before announcing his pledge to LSU.

Green finished his junior season with 42 catches for 864 yards – 20.6 yards a reception – and 14 touchdowns, adding a touchdown in 11 of the 12 games he played in.

The Tigers quietly got Green to campus this spring as they look to continue bolstering their 2024 recruiting class to new heights. For LSU to secure a player of Green’s caliber is a massive victory for this program.

On the football field he’s a menace and on the basketball court it’s much of the same. Green has asserted himself as one of the top players in the state due to his sheer dominance inside. With explosiveness and soft hands, he’s a rim rattler on a routine basis. Green will be a dual-sport athlete in college and suit up for Matt McMahon’s squad once at the next level.

Green’s game on the hardwood translates to the football field. It’s his footwork and ability to be so lethal in the passing game that has him skyrocketing up the rankings.

With both Kelly and LSU men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon adding the top athlete in the state, it gives this program another lethal weapon for the foreseeable future.

Brian Kelly’s Recruiting Message:

“We’re going to identify the best prospects throughout the country and you’ll see that in this signing class. We’ll have players from the northeast, the midwest, the west coast. But our base will be Louisiana and the south,” Kelly said. “When you’re LSU and you have a brand that’s so recognizable, you can’t have blinders on either. Our scope and vision is national but it’s not like we’re pulling four guys out of every state. We’re gonna have a heavy influence in the state of Louisiana, like we should.”

“I think within a calendar year we could be looking to turn over 70 scholarships,” Kelly said. “I certainly don’t think it’s going to be in the mid to high 30s [as the norm]. I think that’s outside the lines. I do believe the high 20s is going to be the norm. I remember years where it was 18, I think those days are over.”

“You don’t want to jump every year into the transfer portal when it comes to the cornerback position. We did this year because there was such a need to put together a representative group. I think there’s gonna be a heavy influence on freshmen and that’s the way we want to build,” Kelly said. “Does that mean we won’t look at transfers? No, it doesn’t mean we’ll close the door on that, but last year they were one year and done. We’re not looking in that respect. Corners would have to have more than one season of competition left if we go that route.”
