LSU OL Mason Lunsford Stepping Away From Football

Lunsford set to hang up the cleats after four years of college ball, stepping away from the game.

LSU offensive lineman Mason Lunsford has announced his intentions to retire from the game of football and prepare for life off of the gridiron.

The Iowa native spent three years at Maryland before transferring to LSU last offseason.

Lunsford started 23 games in his sophomore and junior seasons with the Terrapins, but was used as a depth piece in 2023 with LSU.

For the Tigers, the starters remained healthy and were a finalist for the Joe Moore Award, an award given out to the best offensive line in the country.

Lunsford posted his announcement on social media:

“I’m done playing football and excited to begin the next chapter of my life,” Lunsford said via social media. “Thank you God for giving me the ability and opportunity to play football. I’ve met so many incredible people across my football career and I want to thank all of you for your role in helping me become the man I am today. I want to give a special thanks to coach Madaras, coach Valenta, coach Stein, coach Braswell, and coach Davis for pouring into me. All of you were more than just a coach, but a father figure in my life. I’ve made so many friends along the way and I love all of you guys, please keep in touch. Forever LSU and Go Terps!”

Lunsford is the fourth LSU lineman to depart Baton Rouge this offseason, joining:

- Lance Heard (Transfer Portal)

- Marlon Martinez (Transfer Portal)

- Charles Turner (NFL Draft)

For the Tigers, they return several key pieces heading into 2024, including four starters from the 2023 season.

Headlined by Will Campbell and Emery Jones, LSU remains in solid position up front with offensive line coach Brad Davis handling business in the trenches.
