The LSU Spring Practice Report: Notes From Saturday's Practice, Kyren Lacy Shining

Lacy continues taking monumental strides in the right direction, defensive rotations continue emerging.

Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers returned to the practice field on Saturday morning with the media receiving a full viewing in Baton Rouge.

It was another impressive day from veteran wide receiver Kyren Lacy with LSU's new WR1 continuing to dominate spring ball for this program.

Lacy shined, PJ Woodland continued his meteoric rise and the wide receiver rotation saw more shakeup.

Here are the notes from Saturday in The Boot:

The Quarterbacks

- Garrett Nussmeier looks confident in the weapons he has. LSU's QB1 had back-to-back impressive plays to both Kyren Lacy and Zavion Thomas during light 11v11 work. It's clear he's becoming a more vocal leader with confidence growing.

- AJ Swann took backup reps on Saturday for the Tigers behind Nussmeier. He continues battling with Rickie Collins for QB2 duties. Swann fumbled a snap during light 11v1, but other than that, he's looked sharp as a clean pocket passer.

- Rickie Collins' mechanics were a takeaway from Saturday. He's working side-by-side with Joe Sloan and his improvements are noticeable, but he'll have to continue working hard for those QB2 reps.

The Running Backs

- Josh Williams is taking starting reps with Kaleb Jackson also working in with the first team. It's another minimal report for the running backs given only two scholarship players remain in that room.

- Brian Kelly provided an update on redshirt freshman Trey Holly. Holly remains suspended from football activities, but there was a status update. Holly's second-degree murder charges will not be pursued and he has an opportunity to apply for reinstatement in late April if all goes accordingly, Kelly said.

The Wide Receivers

- It was a big day from the wide receiver room with Kyren Lacy dominating the practice from start to finish. The meteoric rise of Lacy has been impressive to watch and his consistency has been a major takeaway. Of course, spring camp and translating it onto the field in the fall will be two different stories, but it's been a pleasant sight to see. He made another acrobatic catch during 11v11 work that set up a short field touchdown for the offense.

- Zavion Thomas looked sharp on Saturday and earned first team reps. He made an impressive catch on Jardin Gilbert during 11v11 work on a pass from Nussmeier.

- The first team wideouts remain Lacy, Chris Hilton and Aaron Anderson, but CJ Daniels, Zavion Thomas and Kyle Parker also earned a few reps with the ones.

- It's hard to buy stock in the difference between first and second team receivers. It's clear this program will roll with at least five receivers any given Saturday and reps will be divided accordingly.

The Offensive Line

- Will Campbell shined during one-on-one's as did redshirt freshman Tyree Adams. Adams has been a key component to the offensive line rotation with those within the program taking notice of the positive strides he's taken.

- Again, no change with the starting o-line group: Will Campbell, Garrett Dellinger, DJ Chester, Miles Frazier and Emery Jones. Chester has been another impressive youngster on this o-line unit.

The Defensive Line

- LSU is rolling with Sai'vion Jones and Bradyn Swinson as the first-team EDGE rushers with Dashawn Womack also seeing key reps.

- On the interior, Jacobian Guillory can be pencilled in as a starter with Jalen Lee and Kimo Makaneole battling for the other defensive tackle spot. Of course, the Tigers will add at least two more interior defensive linemen this offseason, but this is the rotation as of Saturday.

- Early enrollee Kolaj Cobbins turned heads on Saturday at the JACK position. The speed he attains off of the line of scrimmage is impressive. He'll be a player that needs time to develop, but there are certainly impressive tools to work with here.

The Linebackers

- There isn't too much to report from the linebackers once again with Harold Perkins and Greg Penn III handling the second level.

- West Weeks got heated during a live drill early in practice and started jawing with members of the offense, but it's clear he'll be a key component to the second team alongside his brother, Whit.

The Cornerbacks

- PJ Woodland and Ashton Stamps were the first team cornerbacks on Saturday with Javien Toviano and Jyaire Brown handling second team reps, for the most part.

- Woodland's meteoric rise continued on Saturday after taking key reps once again. He's been impressive and has received rave reviews from those within the program.

- Zy Alexanser remains sidelined as he continues rehab from a torn ACL but was out there with the guys, as he always is.

The Safeties

- Starting safety Sage Ryan suffered an ankle injury during the beginning of practice, but came back to the field after getting taped up again. A player who's taking strides in the right direction, it was important for him to return and look sharp. No worries there it appears.

- When Ryan was sidelined, Jordan Allen stepped up with the first team alongside Jardin Gilbert and Major Burns.

- Burns looks extremely comfortable in the STAR position. It'll be intriguing to watch his development over the next few months with Kelly also pointing out the positive strides he's taking.

- The starting secondary group has been: PJ Woodland and Ashton Stamps as the starting cornerbacks with Sage Ryan and Jardin Gilbert as the safeties. Major Burns in at the STAR role. It remained the same on Saturday.
