Report: Former LSU WR Kayshon Boutte Arrested on Sports Betting Charges

Boutte charged in illegal gambling scheme, placed nearly 9,000 bets.

Former LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte has been arrested after using an alias to illegally place bets on sports while he was underage, Louisiana State Police stated in a press release.

Boutte was booked on a felony count of computer fraud and a misdemeanor count of gaming prohibited by persons under 21.

LSU issued the following statement in regards to Boutte's illegal gambling charges:

"In July 2023, LSU was made aware of allegations regarding a former student-athlete’s improper conduct related to sports gambling while enrolled at the University," LSU said in a statement. "Since then, we have fully cooperated with all relevant authorities involved in the investigation and will continue to do so. We have no evidence that any other student-athletes participated in these prohibited activities, and we are grateful for measures that detect and discourage sports gambling related misconduct."

In a news release, it states Boutte placed over 8,900 sports bets with at least 17 of them being on NCAA games. Of note, at least six of them were on LSU football games.

For Boutte, he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots after capping off his career in Baton Rouge.

He played in just three games as a rookie, totaling two catches for 19 yards.

Boutte, a five-star recruit out of New Iberia (La.) led LSU with 735 yards receiving as a freshman in 2020. After breaking out towards the end of the year, Boutte set a single-game Southeastern Conference record with 308 yards receiving in a win against Ole Miss.

As a sophomore, Boutte totaled 509 yards and nine touchdowns over the first six games. He then suffered a season-ending ankle injury at Kentucky that required two surgeries.

In his junior campaign with the Tigers, Boutte finished the year with just 538 yards in 11 games.

Now, he faces charges of illegal sports gambling after just one season in the NFL.
