Maryland Men's basketball moves up to No. 12 in the latest AP Top 25 poll
Maryland men's basketball team has played at a very high level in their last two victories.
After numerous of slow starts to begin the season, the Terrapins saw their 10-game win streak snapped after two-straight losses against Penn State and Seton Hall last month.
As the new year begins, it seems that Maryland has corrected their mistakes by producing two-straight victories against Bryant and Indiana to improve to 12-2 on the season.
Give credit to Mark Turgeon where it is due. Makhi and Makhel Mitchell both felt that their minimal impact on the court was effecting them and the team. Turgeon's feelings were mutual and both sides agreed that changes had to be made. As the Mitchell twins entered the transfer portal, it paved way for the Terrapins' reserves to receive more opportunities on the court.
Freshman center Chol Marial was a big beneficiary of their departure as he has been dominant defensively in the first two games of his career. Marial has also played a key role in the Terps' current win streak.
The Terrapins outscored their opponents 159-129 the past two games, resulting to their jump to No. 12 in the latest AP poll. This team is looking more like a top five team now than they ever had all season.
In the latest rankings, Gonzaga, Duke, and Kansas remain the top three teams. Baylor has moved up to No. 4 as Auburn moved up to No. 5. Ohio State dropped out of the top 10 entirely as they fell from No. 5 to No. 11.
No. 12 Maryland will host No. 11 Ohio State this Tuesday.
