Maryland Men's Basketball drops five spots to No. 17 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll
Mark Turgeon and the Maryland Terrapins continue to fall in the rankings as they drop to No. 17 in the latest AP Top 25 poll.
Following a 67-55 victory against a high-ranked Ohio State (11-5) team last Tuesday, Maryland arguably looked like the best team in college basketball.
Then the Terrapins fell flat against the Iowa Hawkeyes (11-5) at the Carver Hawkeye Arena on Saturday, losing by a score of 67-49.
Especially when any team is trailing by a lot of points, it is only normal for players to take more shots than normal from behind the arc. That ended up hurting the Terrapins chances of getting back in the Iowa game, with the team going 4-22 (.182) in their 3-point attempts.
It is clear that the Terrapins also struggle away from home, with all three of their losses against Iowa, Penn State, and Seton Hall happening outside of the Xfinity Center. Maryland must find a way to block the noise and play sound basketball when they are on the road.
Tomorrow, Maryland will have another tough test as they travel to the Kohl Center to take on the Wisconsin Badgers (10-6).
As for the other changes in the latest rankings, Kansas (12-3) drops out of the top five all the way to No. 6. Baylor (13-1) moves up to No. 2 as Duke (15-1) drops to No. 3. Ohio State's (11-5) recent struggles has them plummeting in the rankings down to No. 21. Gonzaga (18-1) remains the top-ranked team in the nation.
