2022 DeMatha DB enjoying early stages of recruitment

DeMatha sophomore BJ Blake has seen the beginning stages of his recruitment take off as his first four offers from Boston College, Maryland, Morgan State and Pittsburgh roll in. It’s an exciting time for the 6-foot, 195-pound athlete as he embraces the recruiting scene.
The Maryland offer came from familiar territory as his former head coach, Elijah Brooks, helped make the Terp offer possible. As the Terps were the third team to join the mix, Blake has a soft spot for the hometown team.
“It felt almost like I was back home again at DeMatha, family ties with coach Brooks coaching my freshman year. It just felt comfortable, it felt very genuine as if he was trying to recruit me for the player that I am and not just because I go to DeMatha,” Blake told AllTerrapins. “I love the hometown team because it’s right there, it’s close to my high school. And a lot of players from my school went there. They’re trying to get everyone from home to stay home and build a powerhouse at Maryland, so I respect what they’re doing.”
Pitt became the latest school to offer on Monday as running backs coach Andre Powell continues to hit the DMV hard.
“He was a very nice guy and I can tell that he really recruits his player hard because we’ve talked about their defense, how they move around. I’ve always heard great things about him.”
The genuine feeling that he covets during the recruiting process will help him sift through his suitors.
“I just want to feel the coaches actually want me and not just throwing an offer out there. I want to actually build relationships with these guys.”
Blake told AllTerrapins that he’s looking to visit Boston College, Maryland and Pittsburgh once visits resume, but until then, he’s looking to restore DeMatha’s dominance in their quest for their first WCAC title since 2016.
“I want to prove my speed increase, awareness on the field and show them that I’m an all-around athlete on the field. I just want to win a championship and help me and my team get better every day.”
