An Early Projection of Maryland Football Starters: Offense
Head coach Mike Locksley has been very busy the past couple weeks recruiting and scouting high school football players to possibly join their team.
With over 20 recruits from their 2020 class signing their letters of intent to play for the Terrapins, this team is already better from a talent perspective.
Let's take a look and see what the Terrapins' starting lineup could look like next year.
QB: -
The Terrapins are still in search of a quarterback for next season. They made a late push for four-star QB Jeff Sims but he decided to commit to Georgia Tech.
RB: Isaiah Jacobs - Freshman (5'10'' 195 LBS)
Brother of Oakland Raiders' RB Josh Jacobs, Isaiah Jacobs decision to join Maryland was a no-brainer due his family connection with Locksley. He was highly sought after by Maryland and will have big shoes to fill with Javon Leake and Anthony McFarland Jr declaring for the NFL Draft.
WR1: Rakim Jarrett - Freshman (6'0'' 208 LBS)
He should be an immediate starter on the offense, being Maryland's prized five-star recruit.
WR2: Dontay Demus Jr - Junior (6'3'' 200 LBS)
Demus led the team with 625 receiving yards on 41 catches. Although he is not considered to be a No. 1 receiver in Locksley's offense, he has earned the right to be a starter again and should pair up nicely with Jarrett.
TE: Chigoziem Okonkwo (6'2'' 244 LBS)
There is a good chance the Terrapins start a different player to lead the tight end position. Okonkwo led all tight end on the team this past season with 201 yards. Tyler Mabry finished his final year with the Terps. They still have Zack Roski, who is standing at 6-foot-8 246 pounds. Noah Barnes and Malik Jackson are the other tight ends on the roster.
LT: Jaelyn Duncan - Sophomore (6'6'' 323 LBS)
He played in all 12 games for the Terrapins this past season and should continue to be the starter in 2020. Locksley likes his development as a blindside blocker.
LG: Evan Gregory - Sophomore (6'4'' 308 LBS)
Gregory only played in two games this season as a backup. He could see a more prominent role on the offense now that Sean Christie finished his final year with the Terrapins.
C: Johnny Jordan - Senior (6'1'' 305 LBS)
Jordan left the team earlier in the season to deal with personal issues but is still part of the Terrapins football program. He was on the 2019 Rimington Trophy Watch List for those considered to be top centers in college football. With him back, the Terrapins should be a lot better up front. Communication will be much improved, something that was lacking in Maryland's disappointing 2019 season.
RG: Marcus Minor - Junior (6'4'' 298 LBS)
The former four-star recruit from Hyattsville, Maryland should continue to be in the starting lineup. Instead of right tackle, he should play guard which best suits his size. With more experience, Minor should be even better in 2020. Though the Terrapins started Austin Fontaine at right guard last season, they should seriously consider moving him back to the defensive line where he was a top five player at his position coming out of high school.
RT: TJ Bradley - Senior (6'8'' 317 LBS)
He suffered a season-ending injury during the spring and should be fully healthy by 2020. He has ideal size for the position and was projected a starter prior to the 2019 season.
