Former four-star safety Osita Smith commits to Maryland Football
Former four-star safety Osita Smith initially signed with West Virginia out of high school in 2019 but took a post-graduate season at the Milford Academy in New York.
Now, the high-ranked recruit is heading to Maryland, after announcing his commitment to the Terrapins on Monday.

In his senior season at Wilde Lake, Smith finished with 101 tackles, 7.5 sacks, four fumble recoveries and a blocked punt. He also played a role on the offense and as a return specialist, racking up 875 all-purpose yards.
Though football remains very important to Smith, he also had a priority to do well in school before diving into his passion for sports.
“I just want to improve my grades, and improve everything I couldn’t improve on in high school,” he said in late August. “Be a better person, a better athlete.
Smith has good size for a safety, standing at 6-foot-2 195 pounds. He is arguably one of the best athletes in Maryland's 2020 recruiting class, which is why he was used in multiple positions in high school. He has great speed and acceleration that would make him effective in blitz packages for the Terrapins. He can line up in the box or the center of the field. Smith can do it all.
He would replace Antoine Brooks Jr, who finished his final year of eligibility and will take his talents to the NFL. Mike Locksley's defense would be instantly better with Smith on board.
