Canes Baseball Sweeps Florida State for First Time Since 2001

Alejandro Rosario was excellent on the mound for Miami, as the Hurricanes swept the Seminoles in a 3-game series

The No. 16 Miami Hurricanes beat Florida State 13-4 to sweep the weekend series with the Seminoles.

While the offensive output the Hurricanes produced on Sunday was impressive in its own, the pitching by Alejandro Rosario might be more noteworthy. Rosario dealt across eight innings and struck out 12 batters while walking one. He allowed four runs, but at the rate the Hurricanes were scoring, FSU’s runs became an afterthought.

The Hurricanes had three home runs in the contest. Zach Levenson had a two-run shot that brought home Yohandy Morales. Blake Cyr had a solo shot while Dominic Pitelli had a three-run homer. All five Seminole pitchers who took the mound on Sunday gave up a run.

The Seminoles came close to getting a win at Mark Light Field on Saturday with late rallies in the eighth and ninth inning, scoring a run in each. However, Andrew Walters closed out the game with two strikeouts after allowing a run in the ninth, securing a 3-2 Miami victory. The Hurricanes had issues with bringing runners home, which led to seven Hurricanes left on base.

Gage Ziehl got the start on Saturday and pitched 7.2 innings while throwing nine strikeouts to one walk. Ziehl allowed four hits in the ballgame.

Dario Gomez went 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Levenson’s bat got active as he also went 2-4 and came home, scoring one of Gomez’s RBIs.

Friday’s game began the offensive onslaught by Miami. The Hurricanes shutout the Seminoles 11-0. FSU Friday starter Jackson Baumeister pitched four innings before he was pulled after giving up seven hits and two walks while allowing two earned runs with five runs given up.

The Canes’ bats were going early as Miami had 14 hits to FSU’s four. Miami had three innings of two or more runs. Ian Farrow got an at-bat and added to his home run totals for the season with a solo shot, giving him six on the year.

The Hurricanes are 19-9 (8-4 ACC) and will take on UCF on Tuesday at home before traveling up to Charlottesville to take on the Virginia Cavaliers in the upcoming weekend series.
