Redshirt freshman linebacker Cameron McGrone has burst onto the scene over the last few weeks and now looks like a mainstay in Don Brown's defense. Earlier in the season, Brown made a lofty comparison between former U-M standout Devin Bush and McGrone and that got everyone's attention.

Senior viper Khaleke Hudson was asked about those comments and he simply smiled and said, "Yeah, that's valid."

Brown's Breakdown

Man, if McGrone can get up to Bush's level, that would be huge. Since he didn't play much at all in the first two games, it might be tough for McGrone to reach Bush heights as a second-year player, but career wise he's got time to chase one of U-M's best ever linebackers.

Bush recorded 102 tackles during his sophomore campaign and McGrone is sitting at 24 through six games in 2019. Bush is probably going to retain the edge in overall tackle numbers, but McGrone can certainly chase the sacks and tackles for loss. Bush finished the 2017 season with 10 tackles for loss and five sacks, while McGrone currently has 3.5 TFLs and 2.5 sacks. Those numbers are in range.

Physically, the two are pretty similar as well. As a sophomore, Bush was listed at 5-11, 222 pounds, and McGrone is currently listed at 6-1, 232. Similar measurables doesn't necessarily mean similar production, but it's playing out that way with McGrone and Bush.

The most exciting similarities between the two are their speed and instincts. Bush popped off a 4.43 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and, while we don't get official 40 times for Michigan's players, McGrone can definitely fly. Instinctively, you can see both dissecting plays very quickly. Both are great blitzers because of that and have a knack for making plays in the backfield.

How good can McGrone be? Will he challenge Bush's overall numbers before his career is over? Comment below!!
