A junior from Florence, Ala., the 6-3, 213-pounder appeared in four games this season and recorded four tackles from the safety position. He did not travel with the team to Penn State last Saturday.
In his career, Woods played in 27 games with one start, and had 26 tackles.
This season Woods has fallen to fourth on the depth chart behind senior Josh Metellus, redshirt sophomore Brad Hawkins and freshman Daxton Hill.
Woods is the second Wolverine to enter the transfer portal this season, joining redshirt freshman tight end Mustapha Muhammad. With their departures, Michigan picks up two available scholarships for the 2020 class -- currently U-M has 23 commitments.
At safety, U-M will return Hawkins (eligible for a fifth year in 2021), sophomores Sammy Faustin, German Green and Hill, redshirt freshman Quinten Johnson and current commits RJ Moten, Makari Page and Jordan Morant.
At tight end, the Wolverines will return sophomores Luke Schoonmaker and Erick All, and has commitments from Nick Patterson and Matt Hibner.
The Maize and Blue presently are committed to 88 scholarships in 2020 - 23 recruits and 65 returning players. The NCAA limit is 85. Expect more attrition. That's what college football in 2019 is.
