Michigan State Coach Suzy Merchant Lands a Great Recruit!

Tori Jankoska Signs National Letter of Intent with Michigan State

The 5-8 guard has averaged 21.8 points and 3.9 assists as a three-year starter at Freeland High School.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women’s basketball head coach Suzy Merchant announced that Tori Jankoska (Freeland, Mich./Freeland) signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Spartan program beginning in the 2013-14 season.

“We are excited to have Tori as part of the Spartan family,” said Merchant. “Her ability to extend the defense with her deep 3-point shooting range, as well as her ability to take her defender off the dribble and create shots for other people, will make an immediate impact in a Michigan State uniform. She is a true combo guard with a tremendously high basketball IQ that can play the off guard and point guard positions, which will be invaluable for us next season.”

A three-time letterwinner and two-time captain, Jankoska has started each of her first three seasons at Freeland High School and head coach Tom Zolinski. She has already shattered the school record in career points with 1,562, averaging 21.8 through her first 73 high school games. As a senior, she broke the school record with 641 points, also setting a single-game scoring mark with 44.

For her career, she is averaging 21.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.2 steals, while shooting 45.3% from the field, 33.1% from the 3-point line and 74.1% from the foul line.

Last season, Jankoska led Freeland to a 22-4 record and the semifinals of Class B. She averaged 25.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.0 steals.

A 5-8 guard, Jankoska was a first-team all-state selection as a junior and sophomore, while being an honorable choice as a freshman. She was named Player of the Year as a junior by the Midland Daily News, and has been on the newspaper’s Dream Team each of her three seasons. She is also a three-time first-team all-conference honoree.

Jankoska played AAU for Midland FastBreak and coaches Tim Carter and Ron Peterson, and Michigan Crossover.

In addition to basketball, Jankoska also lettered in volleyball, soccer and track & field while at Freeland. She was a four-year letterwinner in volleyball, earning honorable mention all-state honors as a junior, in addition to being a two-time first-team all-conference honoree. Jankoska was also a honorable mention all-state and a two-time first team all-conference selection in soccer. As a freshman on the track, she was all-state in the 3200m relay.

Off the playing fields, Jankoska currently ranks fourth in her class with a 4.005 grade point average, and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is also the student body’s vice president and is heavily involved in the student council.

She is the daughter of Randy and Lisa Jankoska. She has two sisters, Jessi and Jenni, and one brother, Jacob.
