Don’t overlook one factor with Coach P: She is a great coach.            Â
Â
I think it is important to have talked about the issues and situation around Coach P and the program. I also think that one thing people can’t overlook is that she is one of the finest coaches in the nation.
Â
Her record at MSU and what she has done is historic and for that she deserves great thanks. Taking a less than mediocre MSU program and elevating it to greatness is a fact that is not open for debate. Talking about the issues is not wrong and in my opinion it is very important. I am just as concerned however that people need to keep separate the two. Her issues don’t take away from what she has accomplished. They don’t preclude her from getting the proper respect that she has earned on the basketball court.
Â
None of us know how this will end. I, for one, always root for the best. I am just not willing to let the conversation overshadow appreciation for her work. I know that some will rip me for saying this, but you can’t focus all your attention on what has happened with the latest issues without recalling that she has elevated MSU women’s basketball to greatness. To discuss one and not the other would be unfair.
Â
Issues aside, remember that what she has done here on the court deserves praise. I am definitely willing to give her that.
Â
As far as her interest or lack thereof in other schools, it is up to MSU and Coach P to decide her future. Certainly the issues will get considered, but so should her accomplishments as MSU makes their decision. That is a question for President Simon and the athletic department.
Â
I would assume an answer to her future at MSU will arrive sooner rather than later, and this will be resolved. This relationship doesn’t have to be over, let’s hope it can be repaired.
