Six Spartans in Double Figures Pace Women’s Basketball to 83-36 Win

EAST LANSING, Mich. – A balanced effort, including six scores in double digits, led the Michigan State women’s basketball team to an 83-36 victory over Grand Valley State on Sunday in the final exhibition game. Sophomore Jasmine Hines paced the Spartans with 16 points, on 7-for-8 shooting, eight rebounds and three steals.

Joining Hines in double figures was senior Jasmine Thomas with 15 points, who had her second straight quality performance, also adding five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Junior Annalise Pickrel started hot with seven of MSU’s first 11 points, and finished with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists in only 23 minutes. Junior Klarissa Bell filled the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds and a game-high six assists, while sophomore Becca Mills added 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Senior Courtney Schiffauer was the last Spartan in double digits with 10.

As a team, Michigan State shot 57.1% from the field, including a 9-for-16 (56.3%) effort from 3-point range, while holding the Lakers to 26.9% from the field and 21.1% (4-for-19) from behind the arc. The Spartans held a 45-23 edge on the glass and forced 22 Grand Valley turnovers.

The Spartans tallied the first 13 points of the game and never looked back. MSU made 10 of its first 11 shots to begin the afternoon and eventually opened a 31 point lead late in the first half, before going into the break up 43-16. MSU opened the second half on a 10-2 run over the first eight minutes and cruised the rest of the way.

EXHIBITION NOTES:

- Michigan State averaged 78.5 points and allowed only 35.5 points in its two exhibition games.

- The Spartans shot 47.6% from the field, while holding SVSU and GVSU to 24.5%.

- MSU outrebounded its opponents by a +16.5 margin (48.5-32.0).

- Jasmine Thomas led the team in scoring with 15.5 points, assists with 4.5 and steals with 3.5 per game.

- Jasmine Hines, Becca Mills and Courtney Schiffauer all averaged 8.5 rebounds per contest
