BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Michigan State wrestling team fell at Indiana, 22-9, Friday night at University Gymnasium. Dan Osterman (149) and Curran Jacobs (174) each recorded their 21st wins of the season, while Ian Hinton won his match at 184 pounds.


Indiana (11-6, 1-5 Big Ten) won the first three matches of the dual and built up a 10-0 lead. Justin Brooks recorded an 8-3 decision over Eric Olanowski at 125 pounds, Matt Ortega notched a major decision over Chris Lyon at 133, 9-1, and Joel Trombly dropped an 11-4 decision to Mitchell Richey at 141.


Dan Osterman, ranked 20th at 149 pounds, got the Spartans (9-6, 1-5) on the board with a 7-4 decision over Geno Capezio. Osterman won his team-leading 13th dual match of the season and improved to 21-6 overall.


Wrestling back in his home state, Portage native Sean McMurray lost to eighth-ranked Paul Young in the 157-pound match, 5-2. Ryan LeBlanc then defeated Bobby Nash, 3-2, at 165 pounds, as the Hoosiers extended their lead to 16-3.

Michigan State received back-to-back victories at 174 and 184, as Curran Jacobs and Ian Hinton put the Green and White back within reach, cutting the Indiana advantage to 16-9. Jacobs edged Nick Avery in overtime, 6-5, for his 21st win of the season. Hinton, who has now won five of his last six dual matches, beat Eric Cameron, 5-2.


The Hoosiers won the final two matches of the dual to seal the victory, as ninth-ranked Matt Powless recorded an 8-5 decision over Tyler Dickenson at 197 pounds, and No. 9 Ricky Alcala narrowly defeated No. 20 Joe Rizqallah at heavyweight, 2-1.


Michigan State returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. to take on No. 23 Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.
