Three Spartans Selected for NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Three Spartans have qualified to represent the Michigan State track & field program at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships, as announced by the NCAA Monday evening. Freshman Zack Hill, sophomore Lonnie Pugh and sophomore Beth Rohl have all qualified for this weekend’s NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas on the campus of Texas A&M. Action begins on Friday, March and run through Saturday, March 12.

 

Rohl is the top seeded Spartan as she enters the weekend ranked 11th in the women’s weight throw. Rohl’s distance of 20.44m is a program-best mark which was achieved at the GVSU Big Meet on Feb. 11.

 

Pugh enters the competition ranked 15th in the men’s weight throw with a school record toss of 20.69m. Pugh achieved his mark at the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Feb. 27 when he finished placed second overall in the competition.

 

Hill is the lone shot put qualifier for MSU as he is 16th overall in the event. Hill achieved his personal-best toss of 18.57m at the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Feb. 26 when he was second overall.

 

This marks the first trip to the indoor championships for all three qualifiers.

The 2011 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships will air on a tape-delay on Wednesday, March 16 from 2:30 – 4 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
