Three Spartans Selected To U.S. Women's National Volleyball A2 Program

Amy Dentlinger, Alexis Mathews and Lauren Wicinski head to Columbus, Ohio on June 26.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Three members of the Michigan State volleyball team - Amy Dentlinger, Alexis Mathews and Lauren Wicinski – will be among a group of 48 student-athletes who were selected to take part in the 2012 U.S. Women's National A2 Program. They will travel to Columbus, Ohio on June 26 for training camp and competition.

“We are very excited that three of our players will gain experience with the USA A2 program this summer,” said Spartan head coach Cathy George. “This is a great opportunity to get to know and compete with players from around the country. USA Volleyball continues to provide excellent programs which will grow the sport of volleyball and enhance our chances at being successful internationally.”

It is the second straight season in which three Spartans were invited to the A2 program. Last year, Mathews was joined by Jenilee Rathje and Carli Weiler. The only other Michigan State volleyball student-athlete to take part in the program was Katie Johnson at the 2007 USA Adult Open Championship.

Training begins June 26 at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, while the matches will be held June 30 to July 4 during the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships (GJNC) at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. During the pre-tournament training session, the 48 athletes will be divided into four teams of 12 players that will play one match per day during the GJNC. All matches will be A2 competing against each other in a round-robin format followed by a semifinal and final round.
