Spartan senior earns first Spartan honor since 2007. EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State volleyball senior Vanessa King (Spring Lake, Mich.) has been named to the Big Ten preseason all-conference team, as announced by the Big Ten Conference today. The Spartan senior is one of five unanimous selections, as voted upon by the conference coaches. King is the lone Spartan on the 14-member team and is the first Spartan to be named to the preseason all-conference team since Katie Johnson was honored in 2007.   "Vanessa is very deserving of this honor as displayed by her play last year," said head coach Cathy George. "Every team is out to prove what they can do, and it speaks highly of our program to have someone like Vanessa being recognized by the coaches with this honor."   King will anchor the middle blockers as she looks to close out her already stellar Spartan career in style. King is the Spartans’ top statistical returner after earning All-Big Ten first team honors last season. King looks to build off her 136 blocks and 322 kills last season as one of this season’s co-captain. King led all Spartans last year with a .348 attack percentage, good enough for fourth all-time during an individual season. King also boasts the third best career attacking percentage in MSU history (.308). King averaged 2.88 kills per set and 1.21 blocks per set, both of which ranked seventh in the Big Ten Conference.   The Spartans will hold their annual Green & White scrimmage at Jenison Field House on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 4 p.m.
