Hello again! How’s everyone doing this fantastically cold winter’s day? Hope y’all are ready for another installment of high school hoops. As we inch closer and closer to the district tournament (a month from Monday!) the good teams are playing the type of basketball that has become their trademarks. You know Saginaw High will be playing a tough full court press and Whitmore Lake will put a ton of points on the board. We’ll get to both Saginaw High and Whitmore Lake in this week’s blog.

1, 2, 3, TEAM!

High Score of the Week
Whitmore Lake 89 Ann Arbor Greenhills 86 (175 points)

For the Trojans of Whitmore Lake, Colton Judge was the leading scorer with 33 points. Teammate Alex Cattley had 18. On the other side, Frank Quinn scored 26 for the Gryphons of Ann Arbor Greenhills. Connor Tremper had 21 points and six assists. Whitmore Lake has scored a lot this season. With the exception of their 43 point game against Dexter in mid December, they have put up a lot of points most games.

Coach Cottrell’s Blowout of the Week
Saline Washtenaw Christian 89 Jackson Home School 27 (62 points)

Once again, Saline Washtenaw Christian played Jackson Home School and once again the Wildcats blew them out. Tanner Gross had 23 points. Kevin Stout had 17. I’m just glad to see the home schooled kids getting out and playing some sports. The interaction is great to teach team work.

Low Score of the Week
Jewish Academy of Metro Detroit 39 Mt Carmel 7 (46 points)

Ouch. The margin of victory for my blowout of the week was bigger than the total points for these two teams.

We Da High, Bro!
Saginaw High 72 Saginaw Arthur Hill 58

It wasn’t pretty, but the Trojans bested the Lumberjacks to sweep the season series. Arthur Hill missed 15 of their 19 free throws. Mike Green led the Trojans with 16 points. Center Tommy McCune had 12 points and seven rebounds. Chris Webb led the Lumberjacks with 16 points of his own. Saginaw held a very good Maurice Jones to 12 points. It’s only a matter of time for these teams, though. These two teams should meet up early in the district basketball tournament. When they meet again, it will be for more than the Saginaw Valley League championship; it will be for a chance to make it on through to the Breslin Center for a state championship!
