Prep Basketball Week Two

Yet another exciting week of prep boys basketball has come and gone! The schedule of games will slow down this week because of the winter holidays, but that won’t stop us right now. This week we have our first entry into the 2010-2011 Century Club. Coincidentally, they are also the high score of the week. Not too tough to do when you score over 100 points! With that said, let’s get into the games!

Low Score of the Week

Flint Madison Academy 24 Flint Valley School 18 (42 points)

Our friends from Flint Madison Academy have returned! This time, they are on the winning end with a victory over Flint Valley School. With a halftime score of 10-4, this game did not offer a whole lot of offense, but it’s not always about who scores the most total points. Four players from Flint Madison Academy scored with Jacob Justice leading the way with nine points. Judah McGee chipped in six while Lakota Nunley scored five and Nathan Beebe had two. On the Flint Valley side, Eric Brant led all scorers with 10 points and Zach Jacques had eight. They were the only two scorers for Flint Valley. Congrats to Flint Madison Academy for rebounding after a very lopsided loss.

High Score of the Week

Baldwin 108 Walkerville 62 (170 points)

What a game! This is the exact opposite of the game I just wrote about. Baldwin and Walkerville featured all offense and little defense. Leading the way was Baldwin’s Thomas, who scored a game high 45 points. Thomas tossed up eight three point shots and hit all eight of them. Andon Ware chipped in 26 points. On the Walkerville side, Zach Payne led his team with 20 points. Joe Hills chipped in 18.

Coach Cottrell’s BLOWOUT of the Week

Dearborn Henry Ford 84 Taylor Trillium 20 (64 points)

In this charter school battle, Ford Academy got the best of Taylor Trillium. Bryce Collins scored 16 points, pulled down two rebounds, stole two balls, dished two assists, and blocked a shot. Not a bad night for the young man. Anthony Howard was the second leading scorer with 13 points, a rebound, and an assist. I couldn’t find any information on the leading scorers for Taylor Trillium.

Future Spartan Watch

We took a look at one of the guys who will don the green and white next year, so now we will take a peak at one of the future ladies of Spartan basketball. Kiana Johnson is a point guard from Whitney Young High School in the Chicago area. Johnson was on fire in her team’s 74-45 victory over Marshall this past week. She finished the game with 20 points, including six three point shots, four steals, and three assists. It was a fantastic game for the 5’4” recruit who has been given a four-star rating. I’m sure Coach Merchant is excited to get Johnson into the fold and see what she can do at the collegiate level.
