Michigan State Spartans in the NFL: Week 5

Spartan Nation looks at how former Michigan State football players are performing in the NFL.

We are through week five of the NFL regular season, meaning it's time to look at some former MSU football players.

In this edition of 'Michigan State Spartans in the NFL,' we will look at performances from Shilique Calhoun, Jack Conklin, Kirk Cousins, Bennie Fowler, William Gholston, Justin Layne, Taybor Pepper, Khari Willis, and Le'Veon Bell.

OT Jack Conklin: Cleveland Browns

Jack Conklin played all 73 offensive snaps at right tackle for the Browns as they beat the Indianapolis Colts 32-23 on Sunday.

Cleveland finished with 33 carries for 124 yards and no touchdowns while throwing for 247 yards and two scores.

QB Kirk Cousins: Minnesota Vikings

Kirk Cousins was unable to lead his team to back-to-back victories against the Seattle Seahawks, losing 27-26.

The former Spartan threw for 249 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception while completing 69.2% of his passes in the losing effort.

WR Bennie Fowler: New Orleans Saints

Bennie Fowler caught two passes for 11 yards on six targets and ended the game with one tackle on special teams.

He logged 24 snaps on offense and 22 on special teams – helping his team beat the Chargers in a 30-27 overtime victory.

DE William Gholston: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay lost to the Chicago Bears 20-19 in the Thursday night game; however, Gholston recorded two tackles and a sack on 37-of-63 defensive snaps.

CB Justin Layne: Pittsburgh Steelers

Layne played 11 snaps of special teams but could not record any statistics in the Steelers' 38-29 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

LS Taybor Pepper: San Francisco 49ers

Pepper played in his second game for the 49ers since signing with the team on September 30. Unfortunately for San Francisco fans, they were blown out by Miami, 43-17.

S Khari Willis: Indianapolis Colts

Khari Willis played all 73 defensive snaps and finished the game with three tackles in the 32-23 loss against the Browns.

RB Le'Veon Bell: New York Jets

Bell spent the last three weeks on the injured reserve list but returned to play against the Arizona Cardinals.

However, it wouldn't be enough to lead the Jets to victory as they lost 30-10. He carried the ball 13 times for 60 yards (one reception for seven yards) as the Jets fell to 0-5.

Inactives/Injured Reserve
