Michigan State WR Jayden Reed: ‘I love Coach Hawk’

MSU wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins is excited to have Jayden Reed in East Lansing. The former Bronco let everyone know the feeling is mutual.

Earlier this year, new wide receivers coach and former Spartan loved what he saw from a guy forced to sit out last season due to transfer rules.

"I think Jayden (Reed) is going to be a huge surprise for Spartan Nation; the kid can play."

On Monday, Reed spoke with reporters via a Zoom call, letting everyone know the feeling was mutual.

"I love coach Hawk. He brings great energy. He is very feisty, and he expects the best," said Reed. "He wants us to be physical, explosive, and he doesn't care who's in front of you. He believes that you should win regardless … he has that Spartan Dawg mentality."

Hawkins knows a thing or two about being a successful wideout at Michigan State.

From 1988-91 he caught 138 passes (eighth on the all-time receptions list at MSU) and finished sixth overall for receiving yards in Spartan history (2,210).

Following his year of sitting out, Reed should be a welcome addition to a young receiving core.

"We had a conversation as to why and he wanted to play at the highest level and compete against guys in the Big Ten. He's been working hard in the weight room and conditioning-wise, getting his body and his mind right. I expect him to have a great year," Hawkins said.
