Gophers special teams coordinator Rob Wenger will not return for the 2024 season, according to multiple reports.
Wenger has been the U’s special teams coordinator since 2017 and added the title of rush ends coach in 2020. He’s coached top kickers in Emmit Carpenter, who was the most accurate kicker in Gophers’ history, and Dragan Kesich, who was the 2023 Big Ten Kicker of the Year.
In 2021, Gophers defensive linemen Boye Mafe and Esezi Otomewo were selected in the second and fifth rounds, respectively, of the NFL draft under Wenger’s tutelage.
Minnesota has, however, struggled in aspects of its special teams play over his tenure.
FootballScoop, which first reported the news, said Wenger is leaving the staff to pursue other opportunities.
